It’s too bad you can’t close your eyes and read at the same time. Why? Your eyes caught this infinity pool home design for a reason. And that reason is to envision it as your very own. Keep reading. It’s time to envision this dream for a minute:
An infinity pool matches the color of a July dusk sky and reflects from the lake connecting design and nature like a fever dream. The pool is the central point of the triumphant and symmetric design, pulling anyone’s eye to its middle, where a crystal ball wrapped in water dazzles the center. Palm tree leaves bobbing in a light breeze, their reaching into a Minnesota sky seemingly so unique, the contrast takes your breath away. In the evening, the poolside fire bowls blaze orange beside lounge furniture, beckoning anyone to relax by its side. The space feels like a resort a thousand miles away. But you’re simply lounging in heart of Minnesota.
Before
After
Need remodeling ideas? Admire this beautiful property for a while. It’s stretched proudly across a property on Lake Minnetonka and will take your breath away even through a photograph. If you look at a “before” image, the gorgeous green lawn stretches across a spacious backyard. The property looks like your typical Minnesota lake home. But the space truly set the stage for the resort treatment that brought the water closer and turned the property into a slice of California pie. Home remodeling that is simply dreamy.

MAKING SPACE

Initially, the homeowner wanted an outdoor space that would compliment the exquisite, dashing beauty that is Lake Minnetonka style. Hosting high class business meetings, entertaining family and friends, and living inside pool envy were on the client’s agenda for the upgraded space. A luxurious and distinctive backyard was a strong desire point, and the contractors at Mom’s Design Build were more than up for the challenge to enhance the spacious yard.
By removing the property line, the designer was able to site the structures and re-grade the property itself. To assist in the challenge, the owner purchased the adjacent lot. This allowed the new home’s backyard to span even more space and open the door for an elegant upper gateway. Looking at the photos, you’ll notice the extra space also allowed for a delectable terrace plunge into the breathtaking infinity pool.

RESORT AMBIANCE

If you think of a vacation resort, what’s the first thing that pops into your brain? Tropical drinks? Tiki torches? Beach bonfires? Open water? Palm trees? A straight line of blue water into the horizon?
Well, this new home design has all of that. And more.
Let’s start with the water. The infinity pool was intentionally positioned so the infinity edge faces the largest view of the lake, making the pool look as if it’s an extension of the very lake itself. The large lounging patio surrounding the pool was created by the designer to accommodate big parties along with a lower patio for enjoying drinks, conversation, cigars, and good company. The unique water feature decorated with greenery and plants softens the hardscapes along the property, allowing the eyes to follow the terrace carefully, an appealing delight.
As if this back yard couldn’t get any more perfect for a Minnesota summer, the designer considered every element to make the property feel like a resort. Notice the lighter colored travertine, cooler for bare feet during the hottest summer months. The bluestone inlay matches the bluestone on the pool house, adding a heightened element of interest in the design. The 3 x 3 pieces are laid diagonally with a tumbled bluestone border. The overlook itself features a new type of bluestone plank, 4 inches wide.
The poolside fire bowls and colorful water jets provide an idealistic constant motion that resort ambiance often gives, adding nostalgic drama to either day or night. Fire and water are nostalgic elements of vacation on their own. And that’s not all! Palm trees turn Minnesota into an authentic slice of paradise, perched proudly near the infinity pool.
The resort vibes don’t stop in the backyard. The front yard has a 6000 foot driveway, decorative circle for cars, and equally gorgeous landscape. A handsome archway, nearly twenty feet wide, beckons those to the entertainment area. The top of the gateway, a standing seam metal roof, matches the stonework of the house. To get down to the dock, a four-foot-wide bluestone stairway with a charcoal paver walkway winds down the grade. A journey to paradise, indeed.

INNOVATION AT ITS FINEST

The contractors presented two innovative approaches to the property space. Installed at the engineer wall is an excavator equipped with a robotic end. Secondarily, the synthetic turf field doubles as a train field, allowing runoff to soak into the soil before it reaches the lake.

A QUICK LIST OF IMPROVEMENTS:

  • A moved property line to allow the infinity pool to become a core focal point

  • Site structures and regrade property

  • Additional terraced design leading to dock on the lake

  • New upper gateway spanning nearly 20 feet wide

  • Gorgeous infinity pool positioned to view largest part of Lake Minnetonka

  • Large lounging patio with a lighter colored travertine

  • A unique water fixture surrounded by plants to break up and soften the extensive hardscapes

  • Bluestone inlay added to match the bluestone on the pool house and make more appealing for the eye

  • Poolside fire bowls and water jets near the infinity pool

  • An engineered series of retaining walls to tame hillside and provide more usable space

  • A four-foot wide bluestone stairway with a charcoal paver walkway

  • Synthetic turf to double as a train field and an excavator equipped with a robotic end

  • New 6000 foot driveway on the front yard, entry landscape and driveway circle

Okay, let us take a moment to go back to the infinity pool. Imagine your toes in the water during sunset while you listen to the water jets sprout a constant stream into paradise beside you. A fire is crackling in the distance. You can hear palm tree leaves wave in the breeze. You have an iced drink in-hand. A waverunner streams across the horizon.
